First of all, we would like to thank everybody who supported and voted the website of KMU to the yearly website competition sponsored by Labourstart. After 10 days of voting, you have made the KMU website number 2 among the best of the best union websites that exist today. Please keep on voting.

It is indeed an honor to be nominated and supported by workers and labor activists around the world. We have been only online since March 2006 and being very new to the cyberworld, to be included among the top five this early is already a great feat. We hope we can reach number 1 by the end of the competition.

We started using static html pages but ported to a content management system (cms) after having difficulty with the former system. We also used an opensource cms, namely Drupal, to promote the opensource way among union website developers.

Along with the development of the website, we also trained regional members of the KMU on how to upload their materials on the website. We do not censor their materials to keep the integrity of the members and for the readers of the website to get to know the real opinions of our members.

To compete with big union websites, especially those coming from developed countries is a daunting task, especially since only 10% of our 88 million population uses the internet and most FIlipino workers has not even touched a computer. This makes the competition even more special for us since the union movement in the Philippines right now is under intense attack, with continued killings of unionist and labor activists by government sponsored death squads.

Please continue to support the struggle of Philippine workers. Stay informed on the latest development inside the Philippines by visiting our website. Vote for the KMU website!

#1 HI there, I think I was

HI there,

I think I was illegally dismissed by my company, I worked there for 5 years and they terminated me because I am not "fit to be a Manager" and yet I have mails to show that I have very good standing in the company, they hate me because I am pro-staff. My problem is that on the day they terminated me I asked for an option to resign and they gave me. I was thinking of my future then :( And I wrote a one liner resignation in a piece of coupon bond. Furthermore, I asked for a copy of the minutes that I signed during my conference with them regarding my status, I need it because the minutes will establish that they initially terminated me. They refused to give me a copy. Is this legal? I have my name signed there.. i should get a copy right?.. and can you please recommend an incorruptible lawyer?..I am sorry but I am not sure I can afford an expensive one. Please help me out...Thank you very much

Disgruntled PB,

There are many cases when a supervisor and a candidate for manager who is close to the staff are targeted for harassment and even dismissal by management. We think what you have just narrated to us was one of these cases.

Can you please provide us more data that we can refer to our legal department for advise? If you are living in Metro Manila we can also refer you to go directly to the office of Pro-Labor Assistance Center (PLACE) located in Quezon City. Please call 731-9782, PLACE contact numbers.

Thank you very much for trusting us.
