“The US and Israeli government remains to be the prime aggressors in the ongoing war in Lebanon . They should get out of Lebanon immediately to spare Lebanese civilians from more harm. We demand the immediate stop to the attacks on Palestine and Lebanon . We demand the withdrawal of the Israeli troops from Palestine and Lebanon . We support the courageous and heroic people of both countries in their struggle to uphold and defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity, thus said KMU Chairperson Elmer Labog as the labor group stage a picket in front of the Israeli Embassy in Makati this morning.

The militant labor center strongly condemned the continued wars of aggression of the Zionist Israeli government against Lebanon and Palestine . “Under the pretext of rescuing Israeli soldiers taken captives by Hamas and Hezbollah, Israeli Zionist forces backed by the U.S. imperialist government and Bush administration are bombarding Lebanon and destroying the civilian population. As of last August 2, on the 22nd day of attack, 20 persons more were killed including a pregnant woman in her ninth month, a woman and her two children and an old couple. A mass burial of 93 people in the town of Tyre was postponed due to the continued bombardments from Israeli forces.”

The US-Israel’s war of aggression has caused the death of more than 850 and the wounding of 3,600 of civilians. The number of casualties will continue to rise if Israeli proceeds with its unabated and indiscriminate air strikes. These wanton attacks also resulted to massive destruction of homes and villages, hospital and schools, water and electric facilities, public buildings and offices, industrial complexes, airports, roads, bridges and other infrastructures. Around 25 percent of the Lebanese population were been displaced.

Only two thousand out of the 34,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Lebanon and nearby areas were repatriated as of today. Two Filipina domestic helpers who died while trying to escape their employees were among the first Filipino casualties in Lebanon . “The government must speed up the evacuation of Filipinos in Lebanon to avoid the escalation of dead body count. Also, the repatriated OFWs must be provided with livelihood and employment by the Arroyo administration.”

According to Labog, the primary benefactors of this ongoing strife in the Middle East are the monopoly capitalists and U.S. governments. The Bush administration is backing up the Israeli government in the attacks against Lebanon because they need to boost U.S. economy by selling armaments and military logistics to war mongering countries like Israel . At the same time, U.S. wants to tighten its control and political dominance on the economies of Middle East countries.”

“Like Arroyo, Bush is doing double talk on Israel ’s aggression. While advising Israel to act with restraint in its attacks on Lebanon and Palestine , the U.S. government is goading Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to continue the bombardments against Lebanon despite worldwide condemnation on the unjust attacks.”

The labor group said that the U.S. government is further intensifying its interventionist role by rushing a delivery of precision-guided bombs to Israel . The rushing of delivery of munitions is part of a multibillion-dollar arms sale package that includes 100 GBU-28s which are 5,000-pound (2,268-kilogram) laser-guided bombs and satellite-guided munitions.

KMU called for unity local and international labor groups in calling for the immediate halting of the ongoing U.S.-Israeli attacks against Lebanon . “All people of the world must act together to condemn and oppose the barbaric attacks of Israel and the United States on the people of Palestine and Lebanon . These attacks are a violation of the Geneva Conventions and all other conventions of international law.”
