The official death toll from Typhoon Milenyo (international name Xangsane) as of Sunday, October 01, 2006, has reached 76 with hundreds injured and thousands left homeless. Millions more have been affected due to floods and massive blackout, many of them are without electricity and water for days now.
But the most devastated are the poor families living along the path of the typhoon. Poor neighborhoods of Tondo,Malabon, Navotas, Quezon City and many more have been ravaged, leaving them without shelter, food and clothing. Urban poor settlers who have been recently relocated in Southern Tagalog were also hit, with the typhoon taking away the remaining few possesions they have.
The Kilusang Mayo Uno has joined hands with other groups to form Task Force Obrero and facilitate relief work for the victims of typhoon Milenyo. We ask you to extend a helping hand to the poor families who are suffering right now due to the effects of the typhoon Milenyo. Please share the following:
Rice, Canned Goods, Clean water, Candles, Medicines, Clothes, Mats, Blankets and Mosquito Nets, Cooking and Eating utensils, Tents and sacks, Light construction materials.
Please send your donations to Balai Obrero Foundation #63 Narra Street, Barangay Claro 1102 Quezon City, Philippines.
Or you can volunteer for the 1st Relief and Medical Mission on October 15, 2006 scheduled for areas of Vitas, Isla Puting Bato, BASECO and other areas in Tondo, Manila.
