SC junks rebellion case versus "Batasan 6”
“Free Ka Bel Now!”
The Supreme Court junked today the rebellion case filed against the Batasan 6 composed of Hon. Crispin Beltran, Hon. Satur Ocampo, Hon. Liza Masa, Hon. Rafael Mariano, Hon. Teodoro Casiño and Hon. Joel Virador. As of press time, Hon. Crispin “Ka Bel” Beltran remains under illegal arrest.
“The decision of the Supreme Court (SC) affirmed the innocence of Ka Bel and that he must be freed right now and not a moment must be wasted. It took more than a year of campaigning for Ka Bel’s freedom and justice can never be sweeter than this,” said Elmer “Ka Bong” Labog, National Chairperson of the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) LaborCenter.
The labor leader said that they are presently organizing a rally to be held this afternoon at the Philippine Heart Center where Ka Bel remains illegally detained.
“Workers and supporters of Ka Bel will troop to the Philippine Heart Center at 5:00 pm today to demand that Ka Bel be released today. Since the case has been dropped, there’s no reason for his continued detention,” opined Labog.
According to Labog, the pressure was just too much and something had to break. Various organizations here and around the world, including the Amnesty International and the Inter-parliamentary Union, condemned the illegal arrest of Ka Bel.
During the visit of Gloria Arroyo to their country, unionist from New Zealand and Australia demanded the freedom of Ka Bel.
