Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) Spokesperson Mr. Presto Suyat today said that the resounding success of the Labor Day celebrations which has highlighted the legislated P125 across-the-board, nationwide wage hike or the House Bill (HB) 0345 puts its adversaries on the defensive.
The updated data from the National Wages and Productivity Commission in March 2006 reveals that living wage per day for a family of six in the National Capital Region (NCR) reached P746 while the minimum wage in the region amounts to a measly P275 per day plus P50 ECOLA.
KMU urges unity in the labor sector
He further said that more than 100 representatives in the Lower House have already supported the House Bill (HB) 0345 providing for a P125 wage hike and likewise urges the other congressmen to support the bill.
Suyat further said that the move of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) to settle wage demands at the regional wage boards further isolates the group. He said that even their job fair activity on Monday was a failure and a shameful act, "Nagpagamit lamang sa gobyerno ang pamunuan ng TUCP.
The KMU also welcomed the bill filed by Sen.
