Pacquiao urged to donate portion of prize money to typhoon victims

Days before his awaited fight, Kilusang Mayo Uno urged boxing champ Manny Pacquiao to donate some of his earnings from the match to the victims of typhoon Frank.

“Pacquiao will get more pride and honor from the Filipino people if he would share to the typhoon victims part of his income from the match,” said KMU Spokesperson Prestoline Suyat.

Under his contract with Golden Boy Promotions, Pacquiao is reportedly assured of 5 million dollars of earnings from each fight, while Golden Boy also gets a huge percentage.

“His managers and sponsors who profit much from his fights are also urged to do the same,” Suyat added.

“Afterall, his match and opportunity to earn millions came at a time when majority of the people are most deprived.

“It is the poor who are mainly vulnerable to such typhoons and calamities and who constitutes majority of his fans. They are the same people who have been suffering the most from the steady skyrocketing of prices,” Suyat said.

“People tend to ease their burdens and artificially escape their desperate situations when inspired by his successes and thrilled by his punches in the international ring. It would be better if there would be concrete economic relief for them.” ###
