Kilusang Mayo Uno-Southern Mindanao Region (KMU-SMR) today flayed Cong. Prospero Nograles' claim that it is only normal that people in the country sides will not immediately feel the 'improvement' in the economy. The labor center said that if this were true, "the government needs to rethink its economic thrusts because it is the people in the country sides who desperately need relief."
"He still doesn't get it," Romualdo Basilio, chair of KMU-SMR, said, adding " he is only showing his true colors, anti-people and consummately impervious to the needs of the majority.
"The administration that Mr. Nograles defends does not need to make excuses to hide behind its ineptness to provide relief to the poor. We do not need Nograles, a lowly mouthpiece of Gloria Arroyo, to tell us to wait for improvement to trickle down on us while government officials, close allies and families of Arroyo get fatter and richer by bleeding our resources with graft and corruption. And why should honest, hardworking people wait for goods to trickle down? In the first place, we are the ones who generate the wealth of the nation," explained Basilio.
He also lambasted the solon's chiding that critics only protest when prices skyrocket but are mum when prices go down. "When have the prices gone down? When the price of oil rolls back by a mere five centavos, we hardly have time to feel relieved because it goes back up again faster than it went down by sometimes more than one peso."
"We challenge Mr. Nograles to go around Bangkerohan with only P240 (the region's minimum wage) and see how far a worker's wage can go, considering there are at least four mouths to feed, children to send to school and bills to pay. Then let's see if he still thinks it's unfair that we demand immediate 'trickle down effect' of the economic growth they so vociferously aggrandize," ended Basilio.
