Despite GRP’s fake recognition of Bangsamoro right to self-government

Kilusang Mayo Uno condemned the cunning plan of PGMA to perpetuate her stay in power through the hidden agenda of Charter change purportedly to implement a peace agreement.

“Arroyo was caught off guard by recently admitting that the MOA recognizing ancestral domain, as well as the final peace pact with the MILF, are bound to require Charter change. Press Secretary Dureza even tried to soften the impact of the “all systems go” revelation by emphasizing that the amendments may be limited to specific provisions — in particular, the articles on local government and national economy and patrimony,” commented KMU Chairperson Elmer Labog.

Labog added that “GMA has just announced her  shift  to federal system ostensibly to establish a federal government, make the peace pact acceptable, and pave the way for lasting peace in Mindanao. But we were able to see through her ruse and ploy to justify charter change allowing her to remain in power in a parliamentary system.”

“GMA was never serious or sincere in respecting the Bangsamoro’s right to self-determination. Her megalomaniac obsession and unscrupulous cunning has placed her political ambition above morality. Her Machiavellian schemes had resulted to renewal of conflict and deaths of many in Mindanao,” added Labog.

“People have long suspected  that the most innocuous proposal to change just a few provisions of the 1987 Charter would open the floodgates to sweeping political reforms that would  perpetuate certain officials, primarily GMA,  in power beyond 2010. She has already eroded any public trust that is indispensable in making any peace pact succeed.

“The renewed Cha-cha campaign will also likely recommend the removal of remaining protectionist provisions, and the weakening of economic sovereignty provisions,“ stressed Labog.

“If the administration wants to salvage this peace effort, it should learn the virtues of transparency, at the very least. It should put a stop to its scheming, self-serving and Machiavellian plots,” Labog said.
