THE labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) will join the “Neri Watch” which is being spearheaded by the employees union of the Social Security System (SSS).

According to Prestoline Suyat, KMU Spokesperson, joining the “Neri Watch” will be for the best interest of the workers in the private sector, who composed the majority contributors of the private pension fund.

“ We join our brothers and sisters in the employees union of SSS in their efforts to closely monitor Romulo Neri who was appointed president and chief executive officer of the private pension fund. The worker's monthly remittance to the SSS and contributions of other members must be guarded with utmost stringency especially during this very difficult times,” Suyat said.

Suyat also commended outgoing SSS president Corazon dela Paz for successfully blocking the efforts of Malacañang to use the SSS member's fund for the Arroyo government's supposedly pro-poor program.

“ Outgoing SSS president Corazon Dela Paz defiance against Malacañang's brand of patronage politics must be commended. On the other hand, her resignation in the SSS also reveal the Macapagal-Arroyo government's sinister plans to use the pension fund to prop up its sagging image. We must therefore exercise a heightened vigilance against the manueverings of the Arroyo administration to use public funds or the nation's coffer, especially that the 2010 national elections are coming,” Suyat said.
