“The US is making its voice heard in the Corona impeachment trial, and it is clearly supporting Pres. Aquino.”
This was labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno’s statement today in reaction to the release of a World Bank report implicating Chief Justice Renato Corona in irregularites in the use of the bank’s $21.9-million loan to the Supreme Court, saying the US is interfering in what is supposedly an independent undertaking by the country.
The World Bank has consistently had an American for president and has been condemned for decades by activists as an instrument of US domination.
“The US is showing its support for Pres. Aquino by releasing the World Bank report just in time for the start of CJ Corona’s impeachment trial. The report’s content and the timing of its release jibe with the Aquino government’s drive to force Corona to resign or have him impeached,” said Elmer “Bong” Labog, KMU chairperson.
“In truth, the US rewards its most obedient puppets in the country with various opportunities for corruption. With the release of the World Bank’s report, the US is showing that it is dropping Corona in favor of its most favorite puppet to date, Pres. Aquino,” he added.
“The irony of it all is that the impeachment trial is being touted as an exercise that will strengthen the country’s democracy. The release of the World Bank report shows the US’s hand in influencing the country’s so-called democracy,” he said.
Evil motives
KMU also said that the World Bank report’s release shows US support for Pres. Aquino’s hidden agenda in pushing for CJ Corona’s impeachment.
“Pres. Aquino is taking advantage of the people’s clamor to have former Pres. Arroyo punished and to have CJ Corona impeached in order to advance his personal interests. The US is supporting him advance his personal interests,” Labog said.
“Pres. Aquino wants a reversal of the Supreme Court ruling on the Hacienda Luisita case. He also wants to deflect public attention away from the worsening hunger and poverty in the country,” he added.
“Pres. Aquino wants complete control over the government, especially the Supreme Court, so that he can implement his unpopular and anti-people policies with nary a hindrance,” he said.
