Workers to SC: Release pro-farmer decision on Luisita!

We condemn the Supreme Court for failing to come up with a decision on the Hacienda Luisita land dispute today. We are firm in our belief that the hacienda lands belong to the farmers and we call on the Supreme Court to immediately release a decision along these lines. Justice delayed is justice denied!

There were news that the Supreme Court arrived at a decision today favoring the farmers of Hacienda Luisita. The said news was retracted later in the day.

If the Supreme Court is testing the waters of public opinion on the case, then it should test no more: It is clear from the reactions we gathered in factories and communities – and even in social networking sites – that a decision favoring the Luisita farmers will be met with jubilation. Even those who support Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III believe that the Luisita lands should be distributed immediately to farmers.

Only a pro-farmer decision on the Luisita land dispute would uphold justice on the case; anything less than that is a travesty of justice.

The Supreme Court should be forewarned by the jubilation which met the false reports stating that it has released a pro-farmer decision on the case. Should it come up with the decision which falls short of distributing land to the Luisita farmers, it will be met with the public’s outrage and condemnation.
