“The government is trying to make an anti-Gloria hype to compensate for not doing anything to punish Arroyo after a year in term in time for Pres. Aquino’s SONA. It is also trying to cover up the worsening economic situation of the Filipino workers and people.”

This was the statement of labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno six days before Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s State of the Nation Address as it slammed the government’s hyping of the expose’s made by Lintang Bedol, Zaldy Ampatuan and others against Gloria Arroyo.

“It’s been more than a year under the Aquino presidency and what has the government done to go after Arroyo? Not much except come up with more expose’s. These expose’s only highlight the fact that the Aquino regime has not brought Arroyo to justice this late,” said Lito Ustarez, KMU vice-chairperson.

“We wonder whether it is really only now that the Aquino government got to know about the recent expose’s. We suspect that these are being timed for President Aquino’s upcoming State of the Nation Address, just so Aquino could have some ‘accomplishments’ to state in his speech,” he added.

KMU also said the Aquino government is trying to cover up the worsening economic situation of the workers and people by creating an anti-Arroyo hype now.

“This anti-Gloria hype shows that even Pres. Aquino knows that he does not have many achievements to brag about in his coming SONA. He is just using the expose’s to cover up the worsening poverty of the Filipino workers and people,” Ustarez said.

“Meager wages, soaring prices, widespread contractualization, demolition of urban poor communities, violation of human and trade-union rights; what can Pres. Aquino brag about in his SONA? He has only paved a matuwid na daan for the Kamag-anak Incorporated, the oil cartel and big foreign and local capitalists,” Ustarez added.
