We are glad that the Supreme Court has junked Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez’s petition and has allowed impeachment proceedings against her to proceed. This is an opening for the people’s struggle for Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her minions to be tried and punished for their grave crimes to the Filipino workers and people.

The SC decision brings the ball into the hands of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. He should push for Merci’s impeachment. We know that impeachment proceedings against the Ombudsman is more of a political process than a judicial one. Mrs. Gutierrez’s impeachment relies on the support of the majority of the legislators of the House of Representatives – composed of allies of the President.

Mrs. Gutierrez is widely perceived to be a hindrance to the people’s pursuit of truth and justice over Mrs. Arroyo’s crimes. With the SC’s junking of the Aquino government’s executive order for the creation of the Truth Commission, the Ombudsman’s impeachment has become even more important.

Mr. Aquino has projected himself, during the elections though less after his victory, as a crusader for truth and justice over the Arroyo regime’s crimes. The impeachment of the present Ombudsman is yet another test for him – which he must not fail lest he incite on this issue the anger of the Filipino workers and people.

#1 I applaud on the decision of

I applaud on the decision of the SC regarding Merci and I do agree on the accountability of Merci must be looked forward for this impeachment...but sad to say, I do not favor the railroading of the preocceeding by some disgruntled TONG-ressmen like, the one whose father was indicted by the same office, of the same proceedings. Though Merci is involved in this impeachment, she has the right for appeal on its SC ruling....

The Congress cannot and should not push through the impeachment as planned unless the SC declares the motion as final and executory...Dura lex sed lex...I may not like this idea, but it has to be followed...

As a respect to the SC and as a co-branch of government...THEY WILL HAVE TO WAIT....or else it will be Congress that will be the blame for a constitutional crisis...
