Triple whammy: KMU condemns palace approval of MRT fare hike, continuation of highway toll hikes

Kilusang Mayo Uno denounced Malacañang’s go signal to the MRT fare hikes and the continuation of the SLEX and NLEX toll hikes in its recently concluded “economic team” meeting today.

“Sunud-sunod na sagasa ang ginawa ng administrasyong Aquino sa mga mamamayan ngayong bagong taon,” KMU secretary general Roger Soluta said.

“Instead of heeding the demand of the people to scrap the highway toll hikes, the Aquino admin actually legitimized the fee hikes via its economic team meeting, and it furthermore ‘approved in priniciple’ the proposed MRT fare hikes. It’s a triple whammy against the people’s interests,” Soluta said.

“Mass transport systems such as trains and highways should serve the public. But Aquino is always ready to sacrifice us, albeit our stagnant wages, to the whims of private firms who want to take over and profit from our transport systems,” Soluta added. KMU is an active organization in the Riles Laan sa Sambayanan Network or RILES. #
