‘After Easter, it’s the devil’s birthday;’ People’s farewell birthday rite for Arroyo open to all forces – KMU

Militant labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno announced today its invitation to all political forces to join the people’s farewell birthday rite for Gloria Arroyo on April 5 (Monday), which will be marked by coordinated noise barrage and programs in various protest centers across Metro Manila.

“All groups, alliances and coalitions of different political stripes are invited to join the people’s protest greeting for Arroyo on Monday. We enjoin everyone to cast electoral alignments aside and wish for Arroyo’s last birthday in the Palace,” said KMU chairperson Elmer “Bong” Labog.

“They can honk their horns, blow whistles, play speakers full-blast, and chant slogans for the removal of Arroyo from office on June 30. It will be our way of showing our loudest disgust with Arroyo’s lust for power,” he added.

Dubbed as “Birthday ni Gloria, Babay-Day ng Masa,” the metro-wide protest will be held in Novaliches Bayan, Litex, Commonwealth Luzon, Kalentong, Plaza Hernandez, Marikina Sports Complex and in Trabajo Market. It will be capped by the delivery of a grand farewell gift from Trabajo market to Malacañang.

JBC meet on midnight CJ also on April 5

“All political groups should not miss the timely venue to manifest the broadest opposition to any move that will let Arroyo stay in power beyond 2010, especially since the Judicial and Bar Council will meet on the same day to discuss the nomination of the next chief justice,” he added.

The JBC scheduled its meeting in Baguio City on Monday after the Supreme Court flashed the green light for Arroyo’s appointment of the “midnight chief justice,” which KMU believes is part of an “grand plan to exonerate Arroyo from her various crimes.”

The devil’s birthday after Easter

KMU also noted that Arroyo’s birthday falls right after Easter, saying it resembles a stark irony of good and evil.

“It’s the devil’s birthday after the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, interestingly signifying the struggle for justice and good under Arroyo’s dark reign for nine years,” Labog said.

“But we will make sure that the devil, Gloria Arroyo, celebrates her birthday next year in the hell of prison. It’s where she belongs,” Labog added.
