Not content with dining at an upscale New York restaurant last week, Gloria Arroyo continues to display gross insensitivity to millions of poor Filipinos by not even lifting a finger on the unjust series of oil price hikes implemented by the Big Three oil companies, according to labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno.
Pilipinas Shell, Petron and Chevron implemented this morning a P2/liter gasoline price hike, while diesel and kerosene prices were raised by P1.50/liter, even as workers and jeepney drivers demand an end to the unjust (over)pricing schemes of the Big Three.
“For the longest time, the Arroyo regime has remained insensitive to the plight of the workers and people by being in cahoots with the Big Three in implementing unreasonable oil price hikes,” said KMU Chairperson Elmer “Bong” Labog.
“Talagang hindi na namin masisikmura ang garapalang pagpapahirap sa mga mamamayan ng Big Three kasabwat ang rehimeng US-Arroyo,” added Labog.
Labog likened Arroyo’s fantastic accumulation of wealth to the superprofits generated daily by the Big Three.
“Mga walang-hiya sila. The Big Three’s wealth may be more than doubling with their overpricing schemes and erratic price hikes. Through transfer-pricing, they are also faking their profits,” he said.
Labog said the weekly oil price hikes cannot be justified by major oil companies by merely saying that they have to reflect international price adjustments.
“Filipinos are not fools to believe their twisted logic. We all know that the world oil market has been on a downtrend for several months, so why increase pump prices?” said Labog.
KMU said Arroyo’s continued silence on soaring oil prices may just blow the lid of the people’s mounting anger amid the series of new controversies hounding the Arroyo regime. ###
