Calls on people to contain Arroyo’s Cha-Cha virus

Labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) today called on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to raise her self-quarantine – in relation to the influenza A(H1N1) virus – to another level, to a political quarantine.

“President Arroyo merely wants to please the public when she decided to undertake voluntary quarantine,” said Elmer “Bong” Labog, KMU Chairperson. “The Filipino workers and people, however, demand that she must be politically quarantined so as to contain her wicked means to stay in power, one of which is through Charter Change.”

 “She should stop pushing for Cha-Cha and instruct her underlings in the House of Representatives to stop the initiative. Her plan is out: to run for Congress and then become Prime Minister once the Constitution is revised and a parliamentary form of government is put into place.”

“The Filipino workers and people will not let this happen,” Labog adds. “We shall force Gloria to undergo a political quarantine. After all, the Cha-Cha virus poses a greater threat to the Filipino workers and people than the influenza A(H1N1) virus.”

She is spreading the Cha-Cha virus to gain political immunity. By changing the economic provisions of the Constitution, Pres. Arroyo wants to please US imperialism and the local elite in her bid to prolong herself in power and shield herself from lawsuits arising from her crimes.

He cites recent rallies against Cha-cha as proof of the sentiment of the people. “The successful rallies last June 10 in Ayala and June 30 in Liwasang Bonifacio prove that the Filipino workers and people want Gloria’s Cha-cha virus wiped out.”

He said KMU and other people’s organizations are all set to stage bigger demonstrations leading toward a groundswell of nationwide public statement of dissent and protest when Arroyo delivers her State of the Nation Address on July 27. ###
