Labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno and its member federations and organizations are all set to snake through the streets of Manila with noisemakers and colorful banners as part of today’s multi-sectoral protest march against Gloria Arroyo’s charter change.

With whistles, casseroles, and metal scraps, KMU said they will welcome Arroyo, “the country’s no. 1 saleswoman,” with a deafening “No to the 100% foreign ownership of Philippine economy” under Arroyo’s Cha-cha agenda.

KMU also stressed its call for a “political quarantine” for Arroyo to prevent her from further destroying Philippine economy and sovereignty through Cha-cha and committing more human rights violations.

“More than just physical quarantine to contain possible H1N1 virus infection, Arroyo should be put under political quarantine by the people – she must step down and take her hands off politics. Her stay in power poses a threat that is bigger and clearer than the threat posed by the virus that she may or may not have,” said KMU Chairperson Elmer “Bong” Labog.

“If she insists in playing with politics and tinkering with the Constitution, the people will have no other option than forcibly put her in extreme isolation through a groundswell of protests more powerful than a coup,” added Labog.

KMU said today’s protest march is part of the sustained momentum of demonstrations leading to a massive nationwide protest on July 28 when Arroyo delivers her State of the Nation Address. ###
