Land reform necessary for job stability – KMU

KMU strongly condemns the recent dispersal and harassment of farmers camping out at the House of Representatives, and urges solons to deliberate on the Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill Reform bill instead of the bogus CARP reform.

House Speaker Nograles himself said that the dispersal was enforced to clear the HOR grounds for an expected rally today for the CARP extension or CARP reform (CARPer) proposals. Such only proves that the CARP extension would never cater to the interest of farmers, as the government is willing to commit the gravest human rights violations in order to pave way  “rallies” for it, while brutally dispersing anti-CARP and pro-GARB demonstrators.

KMU asserts that genuine agrarian reform, that was and will never happen through CARP, is key to uplifting the lives of the majority of our people, workers and peasants alike. National industries, which will pave way for more sustainable jobs, can only spring up from a nationalist and prudent use of our lands and natuaral resources.

KMU belives that free land distribution is only offered by GARB, unlike in CARP extension or CARPer, wherein the farmers will still be subjected to payment of monthly amortization, and in case they fail to pay outstanding debts to the government, the awarded lands will be reverted back to the government, or to any landlord or private interest. The CARPer also allows landlords in dispute to question the titles of lands awarded to the farmer beneficiaries, which can undoubtedly lead to non-distribution to the farmers in the end. But under GARB, the farmers become the rightful person to till, explore and benefit from the land in the name of free land distribution and social justice, and any dispute or question about the land will be the official business of the state and the landlord as parties, totally liberating the farmers from any kind of hassle or problems. ###
