Kilusang Mayo Uno told SSS President Romulo Neri today to stop defending his plan to contribute P12.5 billion of SSS funds to the Arroyo government’s P330 billion economic resiliency package.

Kilusang Mayo Uno picketed the SSS head office at Quezon City this morning with Anakapawis Partylist, Gariela Women’s Party, and other groups. They trooped to the House of Representatives afterwards in the afternoon for the scheduled hearing on the SSS fund case.

“We vow never to allow Neri to mishandle our SSS money. Even if he boasts that it will have full government guarantee, it is still our taxes that will be used. We are at a double losing end with this plan,” KMU Secretary General Wilson Baldonaza said.

Baldonaza also slammed Neri for telling critics ‘to stop spreading speculations that only misinform and confuse the public.’

“Definitely, it is Neri who spreads speculations that our SSS funds will be used projects that will benefit the people. We are, however, not confused, and know fully well that such move is improper.”

Baldonaza said that SSS funds should instead be used for retirement benefits of those retrenched from work, among other direct benefits SSS members deserve. ###
