Kilusang Mayo Uno lambasted Arroyo’s speech at her government’s EDSA I commemoration kick-off rights, saying that “the world will not forgive an EDSA-3 but will instead condemn the Philippines as a country whose political system is unstable.”

“The multinational businesses and imperialist governments of the world, whom Arroyo clings to for power, may not tolerate an EDSA revolt. However, the oppressed people’s of the world are actually revolting now right and left against their power-hungry political leaders,” reacts KMU Executive Vice President Joselito Ustarez.

“The political system of our country has long been unstable, and it is the Arroyo leadership itself that has aggravated its instability,” added Ustarez.

“Arroyo must be very afraid of a people’s uprising that would shatter her greedy dreams, discrediting the people’s movement itself that she used to climb to power.

“Now that widespread retrenchments continue, and her government espouses solutions that would be more detrimental for workers like reduced pay, and forced leaves; now that prices of goods, petroleum, matriculation, continue to rise up, and her government responds by tampering further with our tax and SSS money through bogus programs; now that corruption cases heap up against her government, we have every reason to intensify the people’s movement against her regime,” Ustarez said.

“She has tainted, in the most dishonorable way, the spirit of the EDSA people power. But its legacy and lessons will live in the people’s hearts in perpetuity, and will enliven a collective force that is called upon us now.” ###
