Kilusang Mayo Uno today joined a multi-sectoral protest infron of the US Embassy to condemn the current US-Israeli assault against Gaza strip, that has reportedly cost more than 1,000 lives and left over 2,000 wounded, with more than half of the victims civilians.
Elmer Labog, KMU Chairperson said, “In this war and humanitarian crisis we should look beyond Israel and Palestine as key players.US imperialism is clearly behind Israel’s terrorism.
“Jewish strong lobbying resulted to American military aid amounting to $100B from 1949 to 2000, with the current $4B annual aid. The glut of weapons and easy American support emboldened the Israeli military in previous conflicts and invasions which spawned the militant Hamas and Hizbullah. Israel also has full US political diplomatic support in and outside United Nations.
“Israel is practically the biggest military base of US in the Middle East with the goal to protect American military and economic interest in the Middle East,” said Labog.
“As many of Palestinians see it, the land of Israel is land that the world stole from them in 1948, leaving them without a home. And the conflict cannot be resolved by UN due to the veto power of US. Worse, the US is actively restraining the efforts of other countries like France and Egypt to force an immediate halt to the Israeli operation. Last week in the UN General Assembly, the US delegate abstained in the vote for immediate ceasefire,“ Labog added.
He believes in the Palestinians’ right to self-determination, which was even already recognized by UN in 1947 and 1974.
Labog added that the Filipino Muslims in Mindanao suffers the same fate as the Palestinian Arabs. “Both have become destitute economically and are both fighting for the right to self-determination. Both are victimized by fascist states subservient to US imperialism. The world must condemn the Gaza humanitarian crisis, stop Israel’s wanton aggression and defy US military and economic global hegemony,” concluded the KMU Chairperson.
