The Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) condemns the attempted kidnapping of Roy Velez, Vice-President for National Capital Region of the KMU National Council and nominee of ANAKPAWIS Partylist. Velez was inside his house yesterday at around 9 a.m. when 20 men in civilian clothes surrounded his house. According to witnesses, the men where searching for his exact whereabouts.
“The Arroyo regime and its death squads have made things clear that they will not respect any rights of the working-class. They want to make the Philippines surpass the record of Colombia as the most dangerous place for unionists,” said Elmer Labog, National Chairperson of the KMU.
“If it wasn't for the media who came to accompany Velez from his house straight to a press conference assailing the attempted kidnapping, he might suffered a more tragic fate like Vincent “Bebot” Borja, National Council member of the KMU who illegally arrested last May 7, 2007,” said Labog.
Roy Velez served as the Vice-President of the Philips Semi-conductor Philippines Incorporated Workers Union (PSPIWU) before he became a nominee for the ANAKPAWIS Partylist.Add comment
