WHAT IS THE PHILIPPINE LABOR DEPARTMENT doing amid reports that labor activists and unionists are being abducted and killed? So far, nothing, says unionists from National Federation of Labor Unions (NAFLU), an affiliate of Kilusang Mayo Uno. Worse, according to NAFLU Vice President Emilia Dapulang, Labor Secretary Brion seems to be in a state of denial as so far, he has been trying to deny there were cases of abduction, wrongful arrests, imprisonment and killings of labor unionists and activists.
The militant Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan (PAMANTIK), the regional labor center of Kilusang Mayo Uno in Southern Tagalog, said DoLE Secretary Arturo Brion has no moral ground to call for the rejection of the KMU complaint filed to the International Labor Organization.
Labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) today said that they are ready to engage in a showdown of evidence against the Department of Labor and Employment and Malacanang after Labor Secretary Arturo Brion asked the International Labor Organization (ILO) to dismiss the complaints filed by KMU against the Arroyo government's responsibility in the cases of trade union and human rights violations.
