Makers of branded Calvin Klein and Victoria’s Secret undergarments won in a certification election held today, July 31, in Sensuous Lingerie, Incorporated in Calamba Premiere International Park, Calamba City, Laguna.
The election, facilitated by representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE), started at 7:30AM and ended at 10:00AM.
Election results were announced at around 1:30 PM. With a total of 838 votes cast, 577 voted yes for Sensuous Unified Labor Organization (SULO-Independent), while 244 for the no vote and 17 spoiled ballots.
According to SULO president Christopher Pega, “This is just the start for the workers of Sensuous. The initial victory will serve as an inspiration for our officers and members to carry on until and even after a CBA (collective bargaining agreement) is agreed on with the management.
The company president British-national Andrew Sia was also present during the election.
The militant Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan (PAMANTIK-KMU), meanwhile, expressed solidarity for the victory won by the workers in Sensuous.
“The workers of Southern Tagalog express warm congratulations to the workers of Sensuous for having been first in Southern Tagalog to win in the certification election despite the threats and effects of the Anti-Terrorism Law against the Philippine labor movement,” according to PAMANTIK.
“We, therefore, urge the leading workers of Sensuous to consolidate the initial victory, and persuade and win over all the other workers in their company to unite and actively participate in fighting for their collective interests for just wages, benefits, and security of employment.”###
