CBCP will eventually see the light and support GMA’s impeachment

“We respect the pastoral letter issued by the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), as well as their judgments on the impeachment process and other pertinent issues. Likewise, we also expect our Church leaders to respect the people’s will on matters concerning Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s leadership. We firmly believe that with the Filipino people’s persistent moves for justice to prevail the CBCP will eventually see the light and support GMA’s impeachment or ouster.”

“We just hope the Catholic Church will not rally its parishes and congregations in support of Mrs. Arroyo,” said KMU Secretary General Joel Maglunsod.

“We view the CBCP’s position as an expression of frustration over the results of the previous impeachment proceedings against Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. With this, other forms of action aside from the impeachment process, must be done and exhausted in order to find the truth and deliver justice to the Filipino people. It will be best for all if the CBCP will have an open mind for all possible things that can happen in the course of events, especially now the political and economic crisis is far from over but worsening.”

“Despite CBCP’s position on the impeachment, we have no doubt that many sectors and individuals are still looking up to this democratic and constitutionally-mandated process to seek the truth behind the massive electoral fraud and the alleged fraudulent presidency in question. We hope that the CBCP will be true to its conviction that it will not block any efforts by individuals and groups for impeachment process to commence,” Maglunsod said.

The labor group likewise urged the CBCP to make concrete actions to stop the political killings. “Even priests are included in the long list of victims of politically-motivated summary executions. We expect the CBCP hierarchy to do what they can to stop the killings, abductions and harassment against civilians and activists perpetrated by the military and death squads.
