Marking two months of the Supreme Court’s decision ordering the distribution of Hacienda Luisita’s lands to farmers, labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno picketed the main office of the Department of Agrarian Reform in Quezon City to call for the immediate implementation of the High Court’s decision.
We condemn in the strongest terms the continued harassment and illegal arrests of farm workers of Hacienda Luisita. Once again, the Aquino-Cojuangco clan has shamelessly used the state’s police and military forces to violently attack farmers.
“We point our fingers at Pres. Aquino, who is using the government to uphold his family’s interests in Luisita and harass farm workers fighting for the land that rightfully belongs to them.”
Junk the Cojuangco-Aquino motion for reconsideration! Free and unconditional distribution of lands to Hacienda Luisita farmers – now!
Today, three months after the Supreme Court released its decision to distribute the lands of Hacienda Luisita to farm workers, we march to call on the Supreme Court as a collegial body: Junk the Cojuangco-Aquino family’s motion for reconsideration! Implement the free and unconditional distribution of Luisita’s lands to farmers – now!
When the Mendiola Massacre happened in Jan. 22, 1987, it dashed all hopes that then-Pres. Cory Aquino would fulfill her electoral promise of implementing genuine land reform. The Cory Aquino regime not only ignored farmers’ calls for agrarian reform, it inflicted violence against farmers asserting such calls.
