We condemn American businessmen and the US-Philippines Society for calling on the Aquino government to amend the 1987 Constitution so that the country can join the Trans Pacific Partnership trade alliance.
Labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno slammed Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III for agreeing to study proposals to amend the 1987 Constitution being advocated by the House Speaker and Senate President, saying the three are acting out a drama from a badly-written script.
“Stop the drama! Stop selling the Philippines!”
This was the reaction of labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno to Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte’s call for amending the 1987 Constitution, saying the Aquino government is trying to make it appear that there is popular clamor for the move.
We, of the Philippines’ genuine, militant and anti-imperialist labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno, express our support for the workers and peoples of theUnited States of America who are holding their “occupy” protests all over their country.
In time for a committee meeting on the proposed changes in the 1987 Constitution, workers led by labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno held a picket in front of the House of Representatives today to call for a stop to the Cha-cha, condemning the premise and process of the latter.
