Amidst another round of oil price hikes, workers and urban poor led by labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno and other sectors stormed Shell’s main office in Makati to protest the Big 3 oil companies’ overpricing of petroleum products, calling on the public to join the March 8 and 15 protests against overpricing.

This was labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno’s statement today as it reacted to a portion of Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s speech for the celebration of the 26th anniversary of the Edsa People Power uprising in which he bragged about his government’s “success” in earning investors’ confidence.
“The Aquino government is using flawed statistics to try to deceive the public into believing that the current administration is addressing massive unemployment, hunger, and poverty in the country.”
“Being sick is in the nature of call center agents’ work. That is the kind of job the Aquino government is promoting in the country.”
This was the statement of labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno in response to the disclosure of Department of Health (DOH) that call center agents working graveyard shifts face serious health problems that are nearing crisis levels.
