23rd International Solidarity Affair (ISA)
Error
KMU will hold its 23rd International Solidarity Affair (ISA) on April 30 - May 9, 2007 in Manila, Philippines.
The first ISA was held in 1984 during the Marcos’ dictatorship when trade union repression was at its worst. Trade union leaders and members of KMU were among the many victims of political repression. This situation necessitated support and solidarity from trade unions and trade unionists all over the world.
Since the first ISA was launched, the yearly ISA-related activities have indirectly contributed to the two people’s uprising in the Philippines – the 1986 downfall of the US-Marcos dictatorship and the ouster of the Joseph Estrada government in 2001.
From being a trade union solidarity affair, the ISA has developed into a yearly anti-imperialist solidarity gathering of trade unions, unionists and solidarity groups. It continues to become a venue to forge workers’ resistance, solidarity and support on issues affecting the workers and people.
